The advance is one part of the discussion: retained rights, royalties, reversion, options, and future publishing plans matter too.
Self-publishing does not prevent you from seeking representation. Start with the opportunity you want an agent to pursue: a new manuscript, an existing book or series, particular subsidiary rights, or an offer already on the table.
