Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about representation, queries, and process

Agency Representation

How does literary agency representation work?

Our literary agency operates on a commission-only basis. We represent bestselling indie authors seeking traditional publishing deals, audiobook rights, foreign rights, and film/television opportunities.

Commission Structure:

  • 15% for domestic rights (US publishing deals, US audiobook rights)
  • 20% for foreign rights (translation rights, international distribution)
  • 20% for dramatic rights (film, television, streaming)

No upfront fees. We only earn when you earn. There are no reading fees, submission fees, or retainer requirements for representation.

Submission & Response Times

How do I submit a query for representation?

Visit our Query Letters page to submit via our online form. You'll need:

  • Query letter (typically 250-400 words)
  • Book title, genre, and word count
  • Optional: Synopsis and first ten pages

All submissions are free. We only respond to projects we're interested in pursuing.

How long until I hear back about my query?

We aim to respond within 6-8 weeks. Due to submission volume, we only respond to projects that fit our current representation needs. If you haven't heard from us within 8 weeks, you're welcome to query other agents.

What are you actively seeking?

We represent bestselling indie authors with established platforms and proven market success. Our focus genres include:

  • Commercial fiction (thriller, mystery, suspense)
  • Romance (contemporary, paranormal, gothic)
  • Upmarket fiction with commercial appeal
  • Dark academia and atmospheric fiction

We look for authors with strong sales data, engaged readerships, and manuscripts ready for audiobook, foreign rights, and potential film/TV adaptation.

Consideration Standards

Do I need to pay to be considered for representation?

No. Storyteller Talent Agency does not charge reading fees, submission fees, application fees, or retainers. Query submissions are evaluated on the work, author platform, market fit, and current representation needs.
